The York County Heritage Trust will host two P-51 Model Build-it-Day events as part of the ongoing exhibit Front Porch to Front Lines: York County Goes to War.

The free sessions will run from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 21, at the Historical Society Museum, 250 E. Market St., York, and the same time Saturday, Feb. 18, at the Agricultural and Industrial Museum, 217 W. Princess St., York. In the event of snow, the classes will be held the following Saturdays (Jan. 28 and Feb. 25) at their respective sites.

The workshop is open to ages 10 to 14, with parents needing to stay with the model-building participant for children under 12. Attendees will make a 1:72 scale model from a kit with step-by-step guidance from Chet Mohn, president of the Central Pennsylvania chapter of the International Plastic Modelers Society. Mohn also will discuss the history of the P-51, the plane’s use during World War II and model-building as a hobby.

Workshop space is limited, so participants must pre-register for the free program by calling (717) 848-1587, ext. 301, or emailing AIMREC@yorkheritage.org.
