Valentine’s Day celebrations
If you haven’t found the perfect way to say “I love you” to the special people in your life, try the following Valentine’s Day-themed events in and around York County:
For families
Valentine’s Extravaganza: 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, at the Red Lion Youth Center, 190 S. Charles St., Lower Level, Red Lion. Valentine-themed games, free pizza, cookie decorating, prizes and other fun. Valentine’s dinner and variety show: 5 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 12, at Stewartstown United Methodist Church, 26 S. Main St., Stewartstown. The dinner will be family-style, with options for the children, from 5 to 6 p.m. A one-hour variety show will follow with all-ages musical, comedic and dramatic acts. The event is free, but donations are welcome to support the church’s mission trip in April. Reservations should be made by Monday, Feb. 6, by calling the church office at (717) 993-2507, ext. 0, with party name, phone number and number of people attending.
Valentine’s Day at ZooAmerica: 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 12, at ZooAmerica in Hershey. All visitors will receive a chocolate treat. Children 12 and younger can visit stations at the zoo to collect Valentine’s Day cards from a variety of animals. Chocolate-colored animal painting demonstrations will be held at 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. Details: ZooAmerica website or (717) 534-3900.
For sweethearts
Sweethearts Dance: 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, at the Calvary Luthern Church Social Hall, 9 N. Main St., Dover. The nonprofit Dover Community Orchestra will provide live music for dancing. Valentine Ball: 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, at the Valencia Ballroom, 142 N. George St., York. The evening starts with a full-course, sit-down dinner at 7 p.m. and continues with dancing to music by the Gettysburg Big Band Orchestra from 8:30 to 11:30 p.m. Dress is black tie optional; the suggested color is red. Wine and Chocolate: 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, and Sunday, Feb. 12, at Hummingbird Ridge Winery, 735 Kise Mill Road, York Haven. The annual event pairs wine and chocolates in honor of Valentine’s Day. Admission and parking are free. Details: Winery website or (717) 315-0209.
Valentine’s Singles Dance: 7 to 10:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 12, at the Valencia Ballroom, 142 N. George St., York. The Pat’s Singles Dance Club event will feature live music by Rumor Has It in a variety of formats. The dance is open to unmarried adults 21 and older who are neatly dressed. Admission: $10. Sweetheart Hike: 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 14, in the Oak Timbers area at Rocky Ridge County Park. The two-mile walk, led by parks program coordinator Jeri Jones, will include a search for deer and owls as well as some Valentine-themed games. Registration is required for the free hike.
