Oscar-nominated shorts at the Capitol

Short films rarely get any kind of big-screen release — so if you want to see the creme de la creme of creativity and innovation hitting the filmmaking industry these days, you’ll need to head to the Capitol Theatre, 50 N. George St., York, for the weekend.

The theater will screen this year’s Oscar nominees in three short film categories: live action, animation and documentary. Each group will be shown once.

The live action films will start at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 17. The animated films will start at 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 18. The documentaries will start at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 19.

(As an animation fan and a book lover, I have to confess: I’m rooting for “The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore.” Check it out on the small screen in the embedded video.)

Tickets are $7.

For all the details, visit the Capitol website or call (717) 846-1111.
