Dominican Independence Day celebration

The Latin American Cultural Club will host a Dominican Independence Day celebration at 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 25, at the Valencia Ballroom, 142 N. George St., York.

The event will feature Dominican history, culture and cuisine and a variety of musical acts, including Grupo Exito, Drago and others. The fun will last until midnight. Attendees are encouraged to dress up and avoid hats, T-shirts and sneakers.

Tickets are $20 per person or $35 per couple.

On sale: Tickets for Taste of York City

The 10th annual Taste of York City event starts at 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 24, at the Valencia Ballroom, 142 N. George St., York.

Attendees will be able to sample the creme de la creme of culinary wizardry during dinner while helping to raise money to fund York City special events through live and silent auctions.

Annual Monaghan Township Fishing Show

The 19th annual Monaghan Township Volunteer Fire Co. Fishing Show and Flea Market offers plenty of fun for adults and kids alike.

The show runs from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 28, and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 29, at the firehouse, 245 W. Siddonsburg Road, in the township near Dillsburg.

Children 12 and under can try out their skills at the fully stocked trout pond and win prizes.

The show features about 100 tables of fishing and boating gear — new, used and antique — plus a variety of demonstrations and seminars to help anglers have a great season. Door prizes will be given out, and a boat and other prizes will be raffled off.

Admission is $3. Proceeds benefit the fire company.

15th anniversary celebration at DreamWrights

DreamWrights Youth & Family Theatre will celebrate 15 years with carnival-style fun from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 27, at the theater, 100 Carlisle Ave., York.

The evening’s entertainment will include carnival games, face painting, balloon twisting, cake and more.

Train and Toy Show at the expo center

Greenberg’s Train and Toy Show makes its annual winter stop in York from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, and Sunday, Jan. 15, in Memorial Hall at the York Expo Center, 334 Carlisle Ave., West Manchester Township.

The show features operating model railroad layouts, a hands-on area for kids, tables for dealers and collectors, workshops and more.

Admission is $7 for adults — good for both days — and free for children 11 and under.

Entries sought for York St. Patrick’s Day Parade

The 29th annual York St. Patrick’s Day Parade entry process is open.

Applications to be in the parade must be received by organizers by Wednesday, Feb. 15. (Note that bands requiring a performance fee must have their applications in by Tuesday, Jan. 31.)

The parade will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 17, traveling east on Market Street from Penn to Duke. Participants may be eligible for a variety of prizes, including the $400 grand prize.
